A year on GAPS

Over a year now, so I thought I would revamp my list and make any changes ....         It is funny to think how difficult this change was.  Now it seems as simple as breathing.  I really do not feel the desire I once thought about to add in more foods.  Yes, some days would be so lovely to make a sandwich, but really I do like it.  We have added in a little bit of potatoes and quinoa.  Yes, these were some of the things Dr. Natasha recommended in her book.  I think the next thing I will add are pinto beans.  I have never liked navy, too mushy and flavorless.  At times, I will see Nathan reading the GAPS book.  He is now highly in favor of it.  Unbelievable!

WALD issues
(I am assuming I will keep changing my list as I remember more things.  My kids and husband were shocked I would put such personal stuff on my blog.  My husband is afraid that I or we will be labeled freaks (his words not mine:)  ), but whether we are or not, is not my concern.   My goal is the healing and bonding of my family.  I am not afraid of how I will be viewed.  The only one I answer to is Jesus and he has given me 6 precious people under my keeping to feed and take care of.  Also, I see it differently, everyone has issues and ailments and there is no point in hiding from it.  Many of you already know most of the junk I have dealt with already and if I can help one person I will be happy.  Besides, this is the Wald Guinea Pig experiment and I would like to be as open and honest as possible so we can actually see the benefits (or not) of GAPS.)

Nathan

-nothing much has changed on Nathan's list.  I assume he is stressed with work.  He has lost almost 25-30 lbs not intended.  He also has begun to read more which is amazing.  He did admit that he has more clarity in his thinking.  He has been sick free for 14 months.  He caught his first cold a week ago.
  • angers easily around the kids
  • works non-stop
  • doesn't handle noise
  • doesn't like to be around crowds
  • peely skin on soles of feet
Amber

  • poor immune system- haven't been sick with anything since October 2013, I also attribute this to Doterra's On Guard essential oil
  • anxiety/depression- would like to get off medications this year if at all possible- I have been off for quite awhile and still suffer a little especially during the winter.  I have been taking some supplements to alleviate it.
  • addictive personality: sugar, dealt with an eating disorder for over 17 years- sugar I don't really miss, I replaced it with dry fruit.  I have never eaten so well in my life.  Including meats and fat which do not bug me.
  •  food allergies/leaky gut- I can eat most of everything that I couldn't eat before, my skin looks sooooo much better
  • develops rash when I eat allergen foods- still happens when I eat bread -pizza
  • right eye has been blurry more and more- not so bad, only every so often when I am tired
  • poor memory-HA! still the same!
  • poor sleeper (wake up every few hours even with my natural sleeping pills)
  • surprisingly, my athletic ability is great.  I am hoping to improve even more in this area
  • tired, need a nap during the day   -I still take one every other day
  • night sweats- I think I get them from my natural sleeping pills
  • candida- I am on med. from my natural-path for several years
Hannelora
  • constipation issues since 2- none
  • acne- still has but not too bad
  • stomach aches- not sure if it is because of puberty, has become less
  • perfectionist when it comes to her school-still is this way
  • headaches -rarely
  • may have discalculata  (difficulty in understanding math)
  • cavities
Cosette
  • temper tantrums- few and far between
  • sucks thumb- stopped in November, could be because she wanted braces
  • stomach aches after sugar
  • doesn't like crowds
  • may have ADD
  • dyslexia-she is doing really well with reading, her spelling on the other hand...
  • possible candida
Sebastian
  • angers very easily-so much better, seems to be in spurts.  Also he has been sleeping poorly for the last month and a half
  • becomes violent when angered (such as throwing something he is playing with, yells, slams his door)-so much better, he smiles much more :)
  • disrespectful to parents-working on
  • dyslexia-same
Analise
  • gets angry easily-this still happens
  • whines- not so much anymore
  • may have dyslexia (never tested but suspect)- she is doing really well
  • shy (A friend once told me that shyness is selfishness and I quite agree, I believe they are trying to control the situation.  I am trying to tell her when mommy and daddy are around you will talk to the person if spoken too.  I think shyness and introverted are 2 different things.  Thanks Brenda for sharing this with me!)-she is coming out of her shell
  • possible candida
Bjorn
  • Whines (I am sure I don't help with this either, but I am trying to be consistent with him, unfortunately, now it is just his habit)-still!
  • not fully potty trained at night-has been potty trained for about 5 months!
  • I am hoping that his anger will subside as he sees better examples from his siblings.  He generally is a happy boy. -not as bad, but still working on
